Disposal of Old Devices and Batteries
Below you will find information for private households that use electrical and/or electronic devices:
1. Information on the disposal of electrical and electronic devices and the meaning of the symbol in the appendix
Old appliances must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste. (Old) electrical devices may not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. In particular, these devices must not be disposed of with household waste. (Old) electrical devices must be collected and can be disposed of via the local collection system.
Old batteries and old accumulators that are not enclosed by the old device, and lamps that can be removed from the old device intact, must be separated from the old devices before handing them over to a collection point, unless the old devices are disposed of in accordance with Section 14 Paragraph 4 Sentence 4 or Paragraph 5 Sentence 2 and 3 ElektroG are separated from other old devices by the public waste disposal authorities with a view to preparing for reuse.
The symbol according to Appendix 3 to the ElektroG (a crossed-out waste bin on wheels) indicates old devices that may not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste at the end of their service life:
2. Information on the possibility of returning old devices:
a) Return/collection when purchasing a new device and delivering it to a private household
If you purchase a new electrical or electronic device from the distributor, you can return an old device of the same type free of charge (if it essentially has the same functions). If you have the new device delivered to a private household, the return will be carried out by collecting it free of charge. To do this, you can then hand over the corresponding old device to the delivering transport company when the new device is delivered.
If the new device is only sold using means of long-distance communication (Section 312c Para. 2 BGB), the following restriction applies: The free collection of an old device as described above only takes place for devices in category 1 (heat exchangers), 2 (screens, monitors, devices with screens). a surface area of more than 100 square centimeters) and/or 4 (large appliances in which at least one of the external dimensions is more than 50 centimeters).

2.1 b) Return and delivery elsewhere/return of small devices
If you buy a new electrical device from the distributor that is not delivered to private households or belongs to categories 3, 5 and/or 6, and/or that is only delivered using means of distance communication (Section 312c Para. 2 BGB) with delivery to If the device was purchased from a private household, you can return an old device of the same type free of charge (if it essentially has the same functions).
Regardless of the purchase of a new device, you can also return up to 3 devices per type of device free of charge, which are not larger than 25 centimeters in any external dimension. If the sale only uses means of long-distance communication (Section 312c Para. 2 BGB), the return of the device takes place under the above-mentioned conditions Old devices in categories 3, 5 and/or 6 and old devices that are not larger than 25 centimeters in any external dimension can be returned using suitable return options at a reasonable distance from the respective end user, otherwise at the drop-off point or in its immediate vicinity.
The distributor must have set up an appropriate return option for this and provides information about this.

3. Note on data protection

If there is personal data on old devices to be disposed of that must not fall into the hands of third parties, the end user of the respective device must ensure that this data is deleted before disposal.
