Accuracy International (AI) was founded in 1980 by British international snipers in Portsmouth, England. Back in 1985, AI won the British Ministry of Defence contract for the L96A1 rifle. Developed in close cooperation with the British special forces and government users, this rifle marked a turning point in tactical weapon design. In the following years, AI received other significant contracts, including Sweden (PSG90) in 1991 and the German Bundeswehr (G22) in 1995, leading to the development of the iconic AW series. In 2008, the British Ministry of Defence followed with the L115A3, also known as "The Long".
Today, AI supplies tactical rifles and related equipment to over 70 countries and is the leading supplier of sniper rifles worldwide. More recently, AI has revived its roots in competitive shooting, providing rifles for PRS and similar competitions in the US, UK, Europe and other parts of the world. Under the leadership of directors Tom Irwin and Dave Walls, AI won the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade in 2015 and received the award from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
AI's headquarters remain proudly located in Portsmouth, England, where all products are designed, tested and manufactured to the highest quality standards. AI also has a facility in the USA where rifles are assembled and tested for the US market and plays an integral role in the development of new products. Accuracy International remains synonymous with precision and quality in the field of tactical firearms and continues its tradition of innovation and excellence.
